BRISBEE BRINGS HOME THE GOLD!
Fleet Feet USDAA Starters/Advanced trial - Turner, OR
August 23-24th, 2008
Brisbee's first ever trial all by himself! This starters/advanced trial was really fun and a great idea. A relaxed one ring trial and Brisbee did really well in the 4 runs he did, coming home with a 1st in standard and pairs! He even had his first ever steeplechase run, which was pretty darn good for the Briz ... but he was done weaving by that point.
So only one more leg for Brisbee and he really will be in MASTERS - Wow! Still, we're in no rush, that last leg might prove mighty ellusive. One never knows how stressed Brisbee might be, he certainly has no problems with the courses when he's not feeling worried!

A TASTE of BRISBEE
USDAA NW Regionals - Canby, OR
June 27-29th, 2008
Brisbee was entered in just one day of advanced classes at the regional. As usual, it was always a complete surprise what sort of Brisbee would show up in the ring! Super happy zoomy Brisbee (my FAVORITE Brisbee!) showed up for standard. He was all over the place! Took the table three times, the chute twice, two dogwalks - wheee! But he was HAPPY, and actually nailed all his contacts (including the teeter!) and the weaves. So no complaints, that dog just makes me smile.
Then rather pokey distracted Brisbee showed up later in the day for snooker, but he did pull off a Q. He's getting closer to his advanced title ... just give us few more years. ;-)

BRISBEE ZOOMS AROUND
WAG USDAA Trial - Corvallis, OR
March 8th, 2008
I wasn't quite sure what to expect out of Brisbee for this trial, he hadn't gotten much agility practice in this year, and, well, he's Brisbee. And he didn't disappoint! He just had two runs and he was a total wild man for his standard run. dashing to and fro without much concept of teamwork, contacts, tables or weaves - but he had SPEED! Jumpers he didn't have quite so much speed but definitely more focus and he even squeaked by with a Q.
Go Brisbee!

BRISBEE WINS the NW AGILITY LEAGUE
ALL UR QQ R BELONG 2 US
Winter 2007
After Brisbee's almost last place finish in agility league in at 2006, Bruce was determined to come up in the rankings for 2007. So ALL UR QQ R BELONG 2 US (Bruce named the team) was born: Fenwick & Heather, Brisbee & Bruce, Max & Bonnie, and Zorro & Mary Lynn. This dream team of dogs dominated the competition for seven weeks and came out in first place - go QQs!
It should be noted that each team gets to throw out the lowest score every week. ;-)

BRISBEE'S FIRST WEEKEND IN ADVANCED!
Black CAT USDAA Trial - Vancouver, WA
October 13-14th, 2007
Brisbee's first full weekend of Advanced classes (or actually PII, if you want to be precise!). He was all over the map! We had Zoomy Brisbee, Distracted Brisbee, Focused Brisbee, Refusal Brisbee, Fast Brisbee, Slow Brisbee, Flying Over Contacts Brisbee, Weave Poppin' Brisbee, as well as Speedy Weavin' Brisbee and his cousin, Yes, I Really Can Do Contacts Brisbee ... it was his most inconsistant trial yet! For two of his runs he saw one of our own dogs outside the ring before his runs, and spent both runs looking for the other dogs. That was a new one!
Then Brisbee REALLY mixed it up and goes and does a gamble that I NEVER thought he would do, requiring him to turn away from the handler 180 degrees out to a jump ... and he just does it like it was no big deal. Brisbee gets an advanced gamble first time out - how does THAT work?
Anyway, so he surprised me every run, and in the end came home with standard, jumpers and gamblers Qs and two 2nd places - a lot better performance than I had expected! Actually, sort of scary to think if he keeps up that kind of Q rate he might actually MAKE it to Masters some day - yikes!
Good thing he doesn't trial much! ;-) But Brisbee will be happy to be back with Bruce again as they're doing NW Agility League again this winter, so that should be fun!

PERFORMANCE DOG BRISBEE!
USDAA NW Regionals - Canby, OR
June 30th-July 2nd, 2007
I really honestly never thought I would see the day that Brisbee got his novice title in USDAA. 12 weaves, a teeter AND a table - and let us not forget Gamblers - ha! But he proved me wrong this weekend, finishing off his PD1 title in style at the NW Regionals with a 1st place win in his standard run. Pinch me, I can't believe it! I'm so proud of my little white weenie, for him to come to THIS trial, the biggiest trial of the year, OUTDOORS and everything and still want to do agility ... just amazing. Perhaps not the biggest accomplishment to some people, but for Brisbee this is HUGE!
Brisbee also had his first advanced jumpers run ... which would have gone better if I hadn't gotten lost! Oh well, once we got on track he was really moving and having a good time - no complaints! We'll enter Brisbee in his first official Advanced trial this fall. I'll say now that Brisbee will probably never get his advanced titles ... but he's proved me wrong before! As long as he's having fun, I don't mind at all.

It's really hard not to like Brisbee. First of all he's got those ears, and combine that with his weird little face he looks like some sort of adorable space alien. And like a space alien, he's totally bizarre and completely unexplainable. Yet you can't help but smile at Brisbee, he has the cutest mannerisms, he's an accomplished snuggler, and his damn tongue is always sticking out of his mouth.
Brisbee is Bruce's dog. I know in theory all the dogs are all 'ours', but Brisbee has belonged to Bruce from day one. We adopted Brisbee all the way from Missouri … because Bruce saw some pictures on the internet and was smitten. This might sound a bit silly, but Bruce is NOT smitten by pictures of dogs on the internet … ever. And Bruce was certainly wasn't much of a 'dog person' … until Brisbee came along.
So Brisbee showed up on our doorstep and he was the weirdest dog I had ever met. He had no interest in us, he would just go lay in the other room chewing on something and wouldn't even turn an ear when we would call and try to coax some sort of reaction out of him. Part of this we learned was because he was partially deaf, but the other half was just Brisbee. The only dog communication skills he had involved either ignoring them or humping them unmercifully. I was not impressed; I was going to send this bizarre dog back to the rescue.
But Bruce refused, he said Brisbee was `his' dog, and it was true. The longer we had Brisbee the more it became apparent how eerily similar Bruce and Brisbee were. Luckily, however, Brisbee gradually became less independent and starting interacting with us more. He's actually a frighteningly smart dog, he learns extremely quickly … but only when the moons of Saturn are in line, and all aspects of the moon are in conjunction.
Brisbee has two modes, on or off. He sleeps probably 23 hours of the day. But when he's 'on', look out! He's is the silliest, bounciest, zoomiest dog we have. And he can go from one extreme to the other in a heartbeat. He loves to learn, but has so many fear issues that it's been a long road for Bruce and Brisbee as they've learned agility together. I think agility more than anything has helped Brisbee overcome a lot of his issues, and while they still have a long ways to go, nothing makes Brisbee happier than being out there together with Bruce.
Totally weird, totally cute, totally unexplainable - that's Brisbee. I have never met another dog even remotely like him, the thought of another Brisbee just doesn't compute. Though he DOES have a twin sister out there somewhere … scary to think.
