2nd PLACE NW REGIONAL GRAND PRIX FINALS!
USDAA NW Regional Championships - Canby, OR
June 27-29th, 2008
Very, very glad that I was extremely selective about what classes I entered Fenwick in at the regional. With temperatures up to 104 degrees and Fenwick still having issues with the heat I was really relieved not to run him in the team events and most of the normal classes as well. We only ended up running in a few classes, but actually got to run the grand prix finals TWICE!
It was like history was repeating itself, last year Fenwick got to run the first round of grand prix twice due to timer malfunction, this year we got to run the finals twice in a run off with Rock-it for second place! That was really fun, we shaved over a second off our original time, won the run off and came in 2nd for the second year in a row at the regionals. Pretty darn cool!
Of course, after running Grand Prix twice Fenwick was really tired for the Steeplechase finals, dropped a bar, missed a contact ... and still came in 5th. Heh.
I just love my Fen-i-wick, he's the best!

This is Fenwick, LORD Fenwick, actually, and if you've ever met him you'd see the “Lord” is very much a part of his personality. At the shelter we thought we were adopting an 8 week old medium sized herding breed mix. Imagine our surprise when we got home and the first things he did was lift his leg on the nearest bush and then run into the house chasing cats to and fro. Imagine our surprise when we found out we had a little bastard SMALL DOG on our hands!
We would probably never have looked at him had we known his true nature, we were not small dog fans at the time. You can bet that changed REAL fast! “Fast” would be a good way to describe Fenwick as a puppy, you could also use the words “hyper”, “non-stop”, “loud” and, of course, our favorite description of Fenwick, “little bastard”.
Fenwick was hell on wheels as a puppy, too busy to let anyone touch him, a total spaz that never slept, and too damn smart for his own good. For all of that Fenwick always has been and still is totally people focused. He just wants to be involved, to be in the middle of things, and to be the absolute center of attention. And if he doesn't have that … well, he can scream his head off for hours on end.
I love Fenwick's personality, I love how he's always ready to go, always ready for each new adventure and wants to do it together. He's completely fearless and never gives up, he's everything you could want for a dog sports partner. He introduced me to agility, and, wow, has that ever been fun! I can honestly say that for both Fenwick and I it's our favorite activity. But Fenwick doesn't care what we're doing, he just loves to work, and he gets just as excited for obedience or rally than he does for flyball! And of course the more excited he gets … the more he barks!
Fenwick is the most demanding and difficult dog we have … and my favorite, I'll admit. He's a simply fantastic dog, I can't say how much he means to me. He never lets me down, he's always there for me. Though sometimes the barking does drive me (and everyone else) up the wall, it's just part of who he is! I wouldn't change him for the world.
