"CAT CUTIES ROCK" TAKE 7th!
2006 NW Agility League
November 2006 - December 2006
The Bun had his second try at League this year, with a notable improvement from his last attempt! Though I'm sure he still had his share of scores thrown out, London is definitely much more consistent and predictable these days. CAT Cuties Rock was made up of Dixie Matson, Esther Manashe, Julie Padbury as well as London and I. This was a wonderful place for us to work on our game skills, some of which were more successful than others! League is always a lot of fun, and I look forward to next year ...

LONDON'S FIRST DOUBLE Q!
(Okay, not actually taken at the trial - but very cute!)
PAC AKC Trial - Longview, WA
December 2-3rd, 2006
Maybe it was a new and improved mature London that showed up for the trial this weekend, having turned three years old just a few days prior - London pulled it together for his first double Q on Saturday! Yes, we're definitely doing better in jumpers, but London still managed to find time to drop a bar in his jumpers run on Sunday (sigh). Still, a good weekend for the Bun, and hopefully the first of many double Qs!

LONDON AXJ - FINALLY!
Mt. Hood Doberman Pincher Club - Vancouver, WA
November 18-20th, 2006
Finally, we broke our jumpers curse! After many ever so close runs (and some not so close runs), London finally got that last leg he needed for his AXJ. It was really beginning to make me paranoid, we couldn't seem to run a clean jumpers course to save our lives. Which I think only made my handling even crappier, and things went downhill from there. But we're back on track now, with not one, but TWO jumpers legs this weekend! London's first ExB JWW Q! And we even threw in a standard run Q as well, for good measure - Go Buns!
Obviously, we're still working on our teamwork and timing, but we're doing better all the time ...

LONDON GOES TO NATIONALS!
7th Place Power and Speed
USDAA World Championships of Agility - Scottsdale, AZ
November 1-5th, 2006
London was a lucky dog, getting to come along to USDAA nationals with Fenwick, and even found a 'just for fun' team to play around with in the Team competition! And he certainly had his share of dorkiness for the event, but surprised me with some really nice moments of brilliance as well. Certainly I was floored when his Steeplechase run time would have put him in THIRD place with the best dogs in the nation! Unfortunately a dropped bar kept him out of the finals (which is probably a good thing!), but considering I don't think of the Bun as that fast, that run certainly made me sit up and take notice. Then his stunning 1 point Snooker run reminded me how much work we still have to do.
All in all, not a bad showing for my dorky boy - And London even brought home his own ribbon with 7th place in Power and Speed on Sunday. London's best runs ended up being mainly JUMPING courses, go figure! Give us a couple years, I think it would be fun to try another national competition with the Bunbun again. He certainly was having the time of his life, win or lose!

LONDON WINS MASTERS GAMBLERS
3rd Place Grand Prix
Black CAT USDAA Trial - Ridgefield, WA
London had his first full weekend of Masters classes this weekend, and he did fantastic. I felt totally confident that we could not only do the courses, but do them aggressively as well. London was loving having all the other border collies around, he was 100% into it this weekend. He had two nice standard runs with just little bobbles, mostly London doing some classic border collie anticipating, but all the hard stuff we didn't have a problem with! And only one knocked bar all weekend ... when he hit his HEAD on the standard, so I don't count that one! Beautiful fast contacts, we played around with lots of quick releases and he did great. Lovely weaves, beautiful tables, it was all coming together very nicely. Okay, the teeters were a little over the top ... but we can work on that.
I was totally pleased with London's 3rd place Grand Prix run, even with a spin after a jump, just a lovely, fast, flowing run. And when London not only got the gamble in his first ever Masters Gamblers run, but won the class, that was awesome! After struggling so much with Fenwick in gamblers how strangely easy it seems with London ...
London qualified in his first Masters Pairs run, and had a nice start to his snooker run ... and backjumped a red (doh!). His steeplechase run was also lovely (no problems with the broadjump!), but we messed up a tough tunnel discrimination, but really nice other than that. We scratched from jumpers as it was running too late, but I was totally pleased with London's first Masters weekend! Looking forward to nationals, I think London will have a total blast.

LONDON FINISHES HIS CL3 TITLE
10 First Place Wins!
Fleet Feet CPE Trial - Turner, OR
October 7-8th, 2006
London finally finished up the last leg he needed for his CL3 title over the weekend, and ended up qualifying in six Level 4 runs as well. The trial organizers decided to put on 'extra' snooker and jackpot runs, so London had 10 runs this weekend! He was looking good, with the highest points in snooker of all heights and levels, as well as the most points of all heights and levels in Full House as well. He had lovely contacts, flawless weaves and kept MOST of the bars up, anyway. He seemed to be having a fabulous time, and has another big USDAA trial this weekend, so he'll be keeping busy in October!

LEVEL 4 LONDONPANTS
London goes 7 for 8 at Level 3!
CAT CPE Trial - Forest Grove, OR
August 19-20th, 2006
Lucky London managed to snag himself an extra trial this month when I had to pull Fenwick from the CPE trial this weekend. London certainly didn't mind stepping up to the plate and he's rapidly catching up with Fenwick in terms of levels. London qualified in 7 out of 8 runs ... Colors defeats us once again, which I find too funny. To be fair, I did make Bruce run London for that run! It doesn't hurt that you can have all SORTS of faults in all the levels of CPE and still qualify! London was one very super happy dork, he thought this trial at his practice barn was the COOLEST EVER! I'll admit I wasn't taking it all that seriously either, so we had a grand weekend of goofing around and having a wonderful time while we did. Only one knocked bar all weekend, and some lovely contacts - no complaints. So London moves up to Level 4 with Fenwick at his next CPE trial - Fenwick had best get better fast, London is going to pass him by!

ADVANCED AGILITY DOG LONDON!
London Takes 2nd for his First Masters Standard Run!
WAG USDAA Trial - Brownsville, OR
August 12th, 2006
An itty bitty mini agility trial for London, just one day, only two runs - but London made them count! London finished his AAD with a nice smooth Advanced Gamblers run, and even took 2nd in his first ever Masters Standard run! Go Buns! Little London is growing up and looking GOOD these days - I occasionally could even say we look like we know what we're doing. London loved the location, enjoying playing in the water, playing in the fields and playing on course. We cut the weekend short due to Fenwick's health issues, but I was incredibly pleased with London's performance - he's so much fun to run!

London the One Bar Wonder
Agility London Returns!
GSDC AKC Trial - Battleground, WA
August 5th-6th, 2006
A fun weekend back with the Bun, our first trial in the hot summer weather. The good news is that (knock on wood) our creepy contact problem appears to be resolved! London's obstacle performance was beautiful from contacts to weaves. We're still not quite to where I want to be handling wise, but we're getting better all the time. Saturday I tried handling more aggressively and had resulting bobbles on both courses, and Sunday I took it easy and handled from the rear and London knocked a single bar in each run! Oh well, still some really nice runs, and London was very happy to be back. What fun would agility be if we had nothing to work on? Next weekend just a few runs at the USDAA show then taking another break with the Bun.

London's First Excellent B Q!
1st Place ExA Jumpers!
PAC AKC Trial - Canby, OR
June 17-18th, 2006
I didn't plan it intentionally, but London has had three trials for three weekends in a row ALL at the Canby Fairgrounds. But I think he likes it there, he had another great weekend. For our first ever ExB standard run London placed 2nd! He had another great run on Sunday, but I waffled about and ended up doing a very late front cross which caused him to knock a bar on an otherwise lovely run. We even managed to get it together for another ExA jumpers Q on Sunday, which is our toughest class. London had some fabulous weave entries this weekend which was a great way to end our spring trialing season. We're going to take a break from trialing for a while and focus on improving our skills and teamwork over the summer.

GRAND PRIX SEMIFINALIST!
London Qualifies in the Grand Prix and Regional Grand Prix!
USDAA NW Regionals - Canby, OR
June 9-11th, 2006
My fears of London being a total dork for the Regionals turned out to be completely unnecessary. The Buns not only kept most of the bars up, he kept his brain too (well, we won't talk about Steeplechase ...). He blew me away on Friday by qualifying in ALL of the team events, and even coming in 4th in Team Snooker! I kept my goals small, working all our contacts and trying my best to keep the Wheee-ner under control - and he just totally exceeded my expectations. Our DAM team didn't end up qualifying, but no complaints, I was extremely happy with our performance for the team events. For his advanced runs, London took first in both his standard runs as well as pairs, which leaves him but one gamble leg away from moving up to Masters!
London had a great Grand Prix run, dropped a bar in an understandable place, but that gets him qualified for Nationals. Not only that, but for the Regional Grand Prix he did AMAZING, I thought there was no way he could qualify on this course, and in fact was so stunned he was actually doing it just stood there like a moron near the end of the course instead of telling what obstacle to take and we had one refusal. A LOVELY run though, I was very pleased and obviously very surprised we did it - so dorky London is in the Semifinals for Nationals!

Agility Excellent Londonbuns!
London Tries out the FAST Class
GSCA AKC Trial - Canby, OR
June 3-4th, 2006
What with having to bail on our last trial after one run because of London's torn stop pad, London really had about a month off of agility before this trial. London still managed to pull off the last Q he needed in ExA on Saturday, and he's now officially hit the big time! I did not move him up on Sunday, but we'll have our first ExB runs in a couple weeks at his next AKC trial. London also had a lovely standard run on Sunday, only knocked a bar. Our jumpers runs on the other hand ... well, they need work. At least we muddled through on Saturday, on Sunday I just pulled London from the course, he was such a dork! We had a great time playing the upcoming new AKC class 'FAST' though, managing to gather all possible points and get the send bonus - an unexpectedly fun game! Next stop, USDAA Regionals!

London's NADAC Adventure!
WAG NADAC Games Only Trial - Monmouth, OR
April 29-30th, 2006
While we don't normally compete in NADAC these days, one of things I've always I wanted to try with London was Tunnelers! I finally got my wish when they had a 'games only' trial last weekend, London was just entered in Tunnelers and Weavers. I was so excited to see what London thought of all those tunnels out there ... but he just seemed a bit baffled where the 'real' agility was the first day! The second day he started to get the hang of the NADAC style of running (pretty much just take whatever is in front of you), and he was screaming through the weaves! I was proud when he finally had a couple of off courses on the second day, but he really didn't seem to find the games as fun as I thought he would, strangely enough. He did a great job with his weaves, I was trying my hardest to get him 'too excited' to weave - but I couldn't fool him, he's the weaving master. It was a fun weekend, but as London didn't seem to find the games any more interesting than 'regular' agility we'll stick to other venues from now on ...

London's First Weekend in Advanced!
CAT USDAA NW Cup - Vancouver, WA
April 22-23rd, 2006
Okay, so London isn't QUITE the "Grand Supreme Agility Master" yet. But he's working on it! London had an action packed weekend of agility, his first in Advanced, plus Grand Prix and Steeplechase runs. I think he was little overwhelmed! My poor pup was just exhausted by the end of the weekend, his little brain was fried. Still, London did remarkably well, managing to qualify in Standard, Snooker, Jumpers and Pairs. The wheee-ner dog made a few appearances throughout the weekend, but he remained largely focused with great contacts and weaves. We're still working on our timing, we'll figure it out one of these days!

LONDON WINS THE 26" GRAND PRIX!
Earns his AD in style!
RAT USDAA Trial - Elma, WA
April 16th, 2006
London traveled up to Elma for a shot at a Grand Prix qualifier and to get that last elusive Starters Standard leg. He qualified in standard with first place to finish his AD title ... then went on to win the 26 inch Grand Prix! Holy smokes - will wonders never cease? The Lonbunbun winning the Grand Prix?! It's official now, I can no longer call London a dork, dorknuts, dorkwad or dorkipants. I may have to start referring to him as "Grand Supreme Agility Master". Well, only time will tell ...

London's One Year Trialing Anniversary!
PAC AKC Trial - McMinnville OR
March 25-26th, 2006
Well, I might have to stop calling London "Sir Dorkinuts", because the dog that is showing up for trials these days is just not the same dog I'm used to running! He's fast, he's consistent, he's focused and totally on the ball ... could it be London? London returned to the same trial he had his debut at one year ago this weekend. Our first full weekend of excellent classes, we had small goals for our runs. London just kept qualifying - and winning! He qualified with first place in three out of four runs this weekend, he was a total team player, and so much more mature than I'm used to. He had BEAUTIFUL weaves, fast, solid contacts and kept all but one bar up. WOW, I'd like to see more of this 'new' London! In fact, London did SO well, on our last run of the weekend I told him beforehand he could be as dorky as he wanted to be ... and he took me seriously! So three 'grown up' runs and one pre-authorized super wheeee-ner dog run, I'm very pleased!

London Takes Second in Steeplechase!
WAG USDAA Trial - Corvallis, OR
March 11-12th, 2006
London certainly surprised the heck out of me this weekend, first by making it to the second round of Steeplechase and then actually coming in second in a field of very fast, experienced dogs and handlers! I was so proud of my Londonbuns! London was just so very focused and working as a team this weekend, I kept waiting for his 'inner dork' to come out, but he never had one 'wheee-ner dog' moment. Just lovely contacts, perfect weaves, only one dropped bar ... just blew me away how very steady he was all weekend long. He had some beautiful runs, and only needs one more standard run to move up to advanced. My dorky baby dog isn't such a baby anymore, he's definitely growing up!

Welcome to Level 3!
Fleet Feet CPE Trial
February 18-19th, 2006
I moved London up to level 3 for this trial, so he was often running the same courses as Fenwick. Maybe not as fast or flowing as Fenwick, but he was hanging in there! Nary a dork to be seen. My goal for London this weekend was to push him more and see if his brain fell out of his head ... and it didn't (too much!)! He kept the bars up (for the most part), got his contacts (for the most part), nailed all his weaves and held his stays beautifully. Let it be said of all three dogs I ran at the trial London qualified in the most - 7 out of 8 runs!

Excellent London!
Baby London has his first Excellent run
MHDP AKC Trial - Vancouver, WA
February 4-5, 2006
Baby Londonbuns hadn't been to a trial in three months, but apparently he was doing some serious growing up in that time. London had a fabulous weekend of agility, not a 'wheee-ner' dog moment to be seen, he was totally focused and working as a team. No creeping contacts, no weavepole pop-outs, no detours to visit those darn exciting chutes! The Lonbunbun earned his OA and OAJ in style - my baby puppy is growing up! He even had a fabulous first excellent standard run on Sunday, but I spent too much time admiring my dog rather than thinking about the course and mis-cued him at the end of the run. I was VERY proud of him, and we both had a great time. We'll continue to work towards becoming a better team, but this was a wonderful way to start the year!
