Fenwick's 2005 Update Archive
Fenwick Goes Eight for Eight
8 First Place Qualifying Runs
Fleet Feet CPE Trial
Turner, OR - November 5-6, 2005
Fenwick is DEFINITELY back in action, and it really showed this weekend! Fenwick was making agility look easy with 8 first place qualifying runs. Of course, it WAS somewhat easy as I chose to jump Fenwick at 12 inches for the first time ... those jumps were like little speedbumps! Fenwick was happy, fast and having a wonderful time all weekend - I'm so glad to have him back! This was Fenwick's second CPE trial, and while we're still a bit baffled as to the point of games like "Colors", the venue seems pretty darn fun. I also really enjoy the smaller trials! I hope to see more CPE in our area soon ...

FLYBALL FENWICK GOES TO WASHINGTON
Cascade Comet's "South of the Boo!der" Tournament
Auburn, WA - October 29-30th, 2005
Division 4: 2nd place, 3rd Place
Fenwick was very happy to share the load with height dog alternate Speedy this weekend, seeming to enjoy himself without getting burnt out on the flyball thing. I think he would be just as happy to show up and just bark continuously rather than actually do the flyball, but he does humor me.
Fenwick actually did a great job this weekend, being much more focused on the job at hand than barking at me, committing to the box at about 20 feet instead of 3 feet from the start line. He even let Laura run him a few times with minimal backtalk! I think Fenwick was MUCH happier without the stress of being the only height dog! The X-Fido Agents got 2nd place on Saturday and 3rd place on Sunday, a fun team that did great together.
Not only did Fenwick do a great job at flyball, he also won the costume contest dressed up as a skunk! After all, it's just really a continuation of his natural personality, that little stinker ...

FENWICK IS BACK!
Wins Rounds 1 & 2 of the Steeplechase!
CAT USDAA Black Cat Trial
October 15-16, 2005
After many trips to the vet, Fenwick is finally back in action! Not only that, my little stressball was did a fabulous job just relaxing and enjoying our agility weekend, with no signs of worry or disconnection. How much fun to just run my little Fenwick dog again! I was worrying more than he was, looking for any signs of discomfort or stress, waiting for him to revert back to a previous problem - but it never happened! Fenwick was just so happy to be out there again, doing what he loves so much and doing it well!
He had some great runs this weekend, and really surprised me by winning both the first and second rounds of the Steeplechase! We've never even qualified in round one before (I figured we were cursed!). So what a wonderful way to come back to agility with such an unexpected win! Fenwick had some great standard runs, and other than some aframe/tunnel confusion a great Grand Prix run too. Gamblers and Snooker were, well, less impressive - but Fenwick still managed to get his first Super Q! Not that we'll be getting that ADCH any time soon, but neat just the same.
Lots of fun courses, one very happy dog, I'm so happy to have my Fenwick back! I wish there were more USDAA trials locally, they are my favorite venue and I'd love to play more - especially with my new and improved Fenwick!

FENWICK WINS NW REGIONAL MASTER GAMBLERS!
NW Super Regional - Vancouver, WA
July 15-17th, 2005
I had been looking forward to the regional for months, finally a chance to play with Fenwick in my favorite venue against all sorts of dogs from all over area. Unfortunately, Fenwick started acting weird a couple weeks before the event, slowing way down in the weaves and just not acting his spunky, firey self. A trip to the chiropractor didn't reveal anything seriously wrong, just a sore back and small adjustment. However, this didn't help, and Fenwick got slower and by this weekend he was at about half speed with no Fenwick fire. He wanted to play, and showed no obvious signs of discomfort, so we played this weekend but it was like running Fenwick in slow motion.
The weird part about Slow Motion Fenwick is that he's REALLY EASY to run! Fenwick qualified in just about everything all weekend long. And the thing that really amazed me was that super slow Fenwick who hates gamblers and was barking at me and giving me shit the whole time won the 16 inch class in Master Gamblers! How on earth did that happen??? Only a slippery table stopped him from qualifying in standard where he just slid clear across the whole table, I'd never seen him do that before so I'm assuming it just wasn't surfaced like he expected. Otherwise his runs were all perfect, but slow. He still qualified in snooker with 4th place, and qualified in jumpers too.
I kept him in the trial because we were on a DAM team, and Blackjack finished low in the ranks, but high on the fun-o-meter, so it's all good.
I just wish the Fenwick I know and love could have been there at the trial this weekend. I hope we can find out what's going on with him, as a Fenwick with no fire is a sad Fenwick indeed ...

FENWICK - GAMBLE KING
Sort of
CAT NADAC Trial
April 30th - May 1st, 2005
Vancouver, WA
Fenwick had until June 1st to get an elite gamble Q to finish his open title or else he was going to have go back to open regular to get it! With the new combo class moving in, Fenwick finally pulled it together in the nick of time. Whew! First run of the weekend too! I guess he won't be 'held back' after all ...
A fabulous weekend for Fenwick, he was actually relaxed and calm in the trial atmosphere - I didn't know what to make of it! We both had a great time with some really fun runs and the best tunnelers run we've ever had! Fenwick ended up finishing his open Touch n' Go and open Gamblers (hurrah!) titles, and had some really fun, connected runs. Go Fenwick!

LORD FENWICK: FLYBALL DOG CHAMPION!
Muddy Paws a-Flyin' Flyball Tournament
X-Fidos 'Aliens'
Portland, OR
April 16-17, 2005
Fenwick's first time running on mats, and he ran ALL weekend, every race. Fenwick was totally burnt out on flyball by the end of the weekend. The poor guy was like, 'Didn't I just go GET that ball?' Fenwick enjoys the barking, but the actual act of flyball really doesn't do much for him after the first few goes. But he kept at it, race after race, all weekend long! But this might just be his last tournament, he really didn't have the 'flyball fire' that would keep him in the game.
So it is one very tired Fenwick tonight, but he did amazingly well. Always consistent, if not very fast! Certainly no box turn WHAT-SO-EVER. Sigh. I'm so glad we worked on that for the last three months. Hm. But I must say that while he didn't drive back for the tug, he did manage to trade the ball for the tug, and got more willing to do so as the weekend went on. So we didn't get the speed or the box turn, but he's trading! One out of three isn't that bad ...
So way to go Flyball Dog Champion Fenwick! And the 'Aliens' ended up doing quite well, coming in 2nd in the 5th division on Saturday and 3rd on Sunday. Not too shabby!

FENWICK TRIES OUT THE 'Don't Call it Combo' CLASS
CAT NADAC Trial aka The Dust Bowl 2005
February 26-27th, 205
Canby, OR
This was our first chance to try out the new 'combo class' in NADAC, where they combined Gamblers and Regular. But first we got a lecture on how we weren't SUPPOSED to call it the 'combo' class, but rather just Regular. With Gamblers in it. Even though there is no Gamblers anymore ...
Anyway, this is more our style, I've never cared for the 'opening' in regular Gamblers, so I really liked the idea of this new class. Three out of the four gambles seemed very doable for us, so I felt this was a good sign. However, we never did either of the gambles we attempted! Ha! Oh well. In general we just had an 'off' weekend, doing stupid things and Fenwick just seemed exhausted by the last runs of the weekend.
We can do much better, and that's our goal is to get it together at trials these days ...

FLYBALL FENWICK EXCELLENT!
Muddy Paws a Flyin Tournament
Canby, OR
January 22-23rd, 2005
Fenwick made a dramatic return to flyball this year at the first ever Oregon flyball tournament. Fenwick took over 500 eleven inch jumps over the course of the weekend running in every race. The X-Fidos last minute team came together nicely and put in very good times for the team looking very consistent and focused. Fenwick earned his FDX (Flyball Dog Excellent) title and was still barking like a maniac right up to the last race. Special thanks to "Uncle" Bret for attempting to run Fenwick on Saturday, and while that didn't quite work out, Bret's assistance holding the dogs for me when they had to run the same race was invaluable!
