Fenwick's 2006 Update Archive
"CAT BE QUICK" TAKES 1st!
2006 NW Agility League
November 2006 - December 2006
Another fun year of League with Fenwick, with the unexpected bonus of our team coming in first! CAT Be Quick was made up of Dwight and Paula Cash, Julie Padbury along with Fenwick and I. We had a very small but fun group for Thursday morning league, and the whole team practiced hard to put in good scores every week. And the hard work paid off! Fenwick is the master at racking up points in the point accumulation game, and he had some great game runs as well as his normal consistent standard runs. This makes the fourth straight year that Fenwick's team has come in the top five teams!

FENWICK WINS GOLD!
2006 USDAA World Championships 16" Standard Winner!
USDAA World Championships of Agility - Scottsdale, AZ
November 1-5th, 2006
What a huge week for my tiny terrier, his first plane ride, first national competition and first gold medal! We had an action packed week of agility down in Scottsdale for USDAA Nationals (you can read about the whole trip as it happened HERE!), and I'm incredibly proud and amazed at my fantastic little dog. First Fenwick made it into the Steeplechase Finals, and then took 1st place on the very challenging Team Standard course against a huge field of very competitive and fast 16 inch dogs. Standard is by far my favorite class, and it was so much fun to really show what we could do. Then to end up in first place - wow! I'm still in shock!
Fenwick's team, the Fuzzy Forces Deconstruction Company, ended up in a respectable 57th place, and Fenwick just missed the cut off for Grand Prix finals (they only took 8 dogs!). I couldn't be happier with our performance, and I'm so pleased we were able to just qualify and make it down to Arizona for the event. It may very well be Fenwick's first and only national competition, and I couldn't have asked for much more from my little black dog!

FENWICK WINS GRAND PRIX!
Takes First in both Masters Standard runs
Black CAT USDAA Trial - Ridgefield, WA
October 14-15th, 2006
Gosh I love running Fenwick! We're just such a great team, he makes everything so EASY. Well, except for those pesky hours inbetween runs ... when he's screaming his head off and howling. Still working with the trial environment anxiety, and poor Fenwick was literally hoarse from all the barking/screaming/howling he did all weekend. He would make little squeaks instead of barks! On course he did fantastic, winning the Grand Prix and both standard runs with times close to the uber fast big dogs.
An unfortunate misjudged triple accident in steeplechase may have been the cause of his pulled groin muscle on Saturday. When his massage therapist checked him out on Sunday she found the cause of his slightly off performance after that run. The good news is that he's recovered quickly from this sort of injury before, so hopefully he'll back to a 100% for nationals in a few weeks. Until then he'll be taking it easy. Still, a fun weekend - bring on the nationals, I think we're ready!

FENWICK CHECKS OUT LEVEL 5
Earns his CL4-s
Fleet Feet CPE Trial - Turner, OR
October 7-8th, 2006
Fenwick had a fabulous day on Saturday, feeling very speedy with the fastest time of all heights in Colors and Standard. Perhaps a little too speedy though, as while he wasn't missing his contacts, he certainly wasn't waiting for release either. So Sunday we were worked on that, which wasn't nearly as much fun! Fenwick had his first runs in Level 5, and qualified 8 out of 10 runs over the weekend. He is now in level 5 Fullhouse, Snooker, Jackpot and Wildcard. Still working on getting him to relax in a trial environment though ...

Fenwick Relives his NADAC Days
Goes 7 for 7!
WAG NADAC Games Only Trial - Monmouth, OR
April 29-30th, 2006
Just for fun we headed down for a 'games only' NADAC trial last weekend. Due to Fenwick's back issues I didn't enter him in Weavers, but he ran in 4 runs of Tunnelers and 3 runs of Touch n' Go ... and qualified in them all! We hadn't done any NADAC in quite some time, so this was novel for the both of us. I think Tunnelers is such a fun game though, and Fenwick agrees! I also went with the goal of working on contacts all weekend, but Fenwick was totally solid on every one - I couldn't get him to make a mistake no matter I did. Fenwick is my super agility dog ... even when he got into the food and ate a big bag of Kit-Kats, half a bag of Chex Mix and 1/2 pound of emu, the little stinker. Looking like a little sausage dog didn't stop him from running just fine though!

Fenwick Takes 2nd in the Grand Prix!
Earns his Second Super Q!
CAT USDAA NW Cup - Vancouver, WA
April 22-23rd, 2006
Fenwick earned his second GP qualifer in style, 2nd place in a large 16" class at the NW Cup. He also had an awesome start for the Cup on Saturday, winning Masters Standard ... but, alas, he decided that biting me on the butt was more fun than agility on Sunday and we left the course ... It was actually pretty funny, a truly classic Fenwick moment. He redeemed himself later that day when a very tired Fenwick managed to pull off his 2nd Super Q! It was a very long weekend, Fenwick gave me some great runs, I just love playing agility with my little bastard. He had some great Steeplechase runs, but dropped a bar for his first round, and missed the last jump for the second! Doh! Fenwick even managed to pull off second place for jumpers at the VERY last class of the entire trial. My little Fenwick just gives me everything he's got, I'm so proud of him!

FENWICK GOES MAD!
Wins the 16" Grand Prix!
RAT USDAA Trial - Elma, WA
April 16th, 2006
Well, it might not have been the fastest trip to a MAD title, but we've definitely enjoyed the trip! Fenwick finally got the last standard leg for his Masters Agility Title up at Elma. What with Fenwick's ongoing physical and stress issues, I'm never sure what tomorrow will bring, so I've always tried to enjoy every trial we have together like it may be our last. Fenwick introduced me to agility, when we went to our first class in 2001 I didn't even know what agility WAS, nor had Fenwick ever been to a group training class ... it was a bit of a culture shock for both of us! I didn't realize what a simply amazing dog I had in my Fenwick back then, I was so lucky to have such an incredibly talented and driven partner. It's been so much fun learning the game together and I can only hope that Fenwick will continue to be able to play for a long, long time.
Of course, Fenwick decided that earning his MAD wasn't enough for the weekend and decided to win the Grand Prix as well! I'm just so proud and blessed to have such a wonderful little guy as my partner.
Love ya, my lil' bastard Fenwick!
Bark on!

Teacup Agility Fenwick is Back!
Helix's TDAA Trial - Hillsboro, OR
March 19th, 2006
Fenwick hadn't been to a TDAA trial since 2004 as there have been no local trials in this small venue. And what a 'small' venue it is! I just adore seeing all the little dogs on the teeny-tiny equipment - if you don't find this super cute, there's something wrong with you. Fenwick dove right back into the venue despite his long break, no problems with the tiny contact equipment, itty-bitty weaves or super small spacing. He even did the dreaded 'stand' on the table! I'm so proud of my little man, teacup agility really suits him. Fenwick ended up qualifying in 3 out of 4 runs with two great games and a nice standard run. Hopefully there will be more TDAA in our area in the coming year and we can continue to play!

Fenwick Takes Second in Steeplechase!
WAG USDAA Trial - Corvallis, OR
March 11-12th, 2006
Fenwick certainly had no problems weaving this weekend, he was running really well with no signs of reluctance or discomfort. Knock on wood we've found the solution to that issue! Fenwick was just out there doing a wonderful job and having a great time, always ready to play right down to the last run of the weekend and barking his little head off the whole time. Fenwick won the first round of Steeplechase again (with a faster time than London!), and also came in second place in the final round! I'm just so tickled that my little spud is doing so well in this sort of game considering that ground speed is NOT his strongpoint in agility. We've really become a great team, and it's just so much fun to be out there with him. Keeping my fingers crossed we can keep at it!

Welcome to Level 4!
Fleet Feet CPE Trial
February 18-19th, 2006
Fenwick had his first look at Level 4 agility in CPE this weekend. However, because it's so new to our area many times the same course is used for levels 3 and beyond, so he only had a few runs of 'true' level 4 courses. Naturally, he kicked butt and had a great time while doing it. He was the only dog of all levels and heights to do all sevens in snooker, and the highest amount of points of all dogs of all levels in Jackpot, and won every qualifying run. Amusingly enough, he continued his losing streak on the most simplistic game of all, 'Colors', where we were once again unable to complete an 8 obstacle, completely challengeless course successfully. Unfortunately at the end of the first day Fenwick started having issues weaving again, and the next day continued to show signs of reluctance to weave, indicating a physical problem unresolved. I can only hope that we're able to find and solve whatever is causing this ongoing issue ...

"Fluff n' Nubbins" Takes 3rd Place
NW Agility League - Winter 2005
For the third year in a row, Fenwick's agility league team has made the top five out of the 40+ teams competing in the northwest. Of course, he had a lot of help from his fabulous teammates - Dwight and Dana, Cindy and Misty and for the third year in a row, Marylynn and Any. Two shelties, a cocker and Fenwick, two fluffy tails and two nubbins, hence the name. Fenwick was extremely consistent, with a perfect score in every standard run and some phenomenal game scores. It helped that Fenwick would often substitute on another team the day before, so we got some good 'practice' in almost every week! FnN held on to 2nd place for almost 6 weeks, but another team slipped past us the last week, it was very close. As usual, league was a lot of fun and Fenwick and I had a fabulous time. Looking forward to next year ...
