Brisbee's 2006 Update Archive
"THE KILLER B's" MAKE THEIR DEBUT
2006 NW Agility League
November 2006 - December 2006
Brisbee and Bruce had their first experience with league this year. This was a fabulous opportunity to help with Brisbee's trial stress, and Bruce is now an expert league judge - what with judging every week! The Killer B's (known more for their extreme cuteness and enthusiasm than their accuracy) debuted dead last for a few weeks, but slowly climbed up the rankings to finish a respectable 46th. The Friday night Forest Grove league is always the best, with the most relaxed, fun and supportive group around - and the final pot luck this week was awesome! This will hopefully not be Brisbee's final league experience, and next year he'll be rocking every course ...

BRISBEE'S
PERFORMANCE DEBUT
Black CAT USDAA Trial - Ridgefield, WA
October 14-15th, 2006
Brisbee's October of Agility is paying off, slowly but surely. His attitude at this trial was fantastic, he was perky, strutting around, pulling Bruce everywhere full speed ahead. On course we're still dealing with stress displacement, but he's stressing 'up', not shutting down. When he gets going he's zooming across the equipment, through the weaves, and even the teeter! Still lots of sightseeing inbetween, but when he gets going, he's RUNNING, not trotting.
Once again, an improvement over last weekend, and once Bruce could get him focused, 12 weaves were not a problem at all. I would say he's having a lot more fun, his attitude is improved dramatically, and I have high hopes that we can get Brisbee to the same level of performance that we see in class. Of course, it IS Brisbee, I'm not saying it will happen quickly or at every run, but I'm feeling very hopeful that after next weekend's trial and after league this winter Brisbee will be more 'trial ready'.

BRISBEE THE
SNOOKERMASTER
(Sort of)
Fleet Feet CPE Trial - Turner, OR
October 7-8th, 2006
Brisbee began his 'month of trials' this weekend, with a full CPE trial down in Turner. The good news is that Brisbee was definitely improved in terms of stress level over his last trial. In fact, Brisbee also improved dramatically from Saturday to Sunday as well. We're still not seeing the bouncy, happy dog we'd like, but we're going to keep working at it. Next weekend a full schedule of USDAA runs, and then even a little NADAC the weekend after. He's also entered in league this winter, so we're keeping our fingers crossed we can work through his stress issues in competition environments.
Brisbee was much more focused this trial, and even went from being too stressed to weave on Saturday to getting the weaves first try on Sunday - winning Level 3 Standard and Snooker, and even having the most points of all Level 3 dogs. Go Brisbee!

Welcome to Level 2!
Fleet Feet CPE Trial - Turner, OR
February 18-19th, 2006
We went ahead and took the plunge to see if Brisbee's teeter performance would stay solid in competition and moved him up to level 2 for this trial. After 3 years of training and retraining, would he balk at the teeter yet again? It didn't help that the weather this weekend was near freezing, and Brisbee is a dog made for warm and sunny climates. Brisbee was a trooper though, got out there on course and did teeter after teeter, only gaining more confidence as the weekend went on. Never once did he pretend he couldn't see it, stop at the pivot or show signs of reluctance. He was the teeter master! Weaves were also not an issue, he was finding his entries and bouncing along confidently to the end! Saturday was a great day, he was obviously having a great time, bouncy and happy on course ... and not qualifying at all. "Bouncy" Brisbee is hard to steer, and "Bouncy" Brisbee tends to run around jumps to get to more favored obstacles! Sunday he was less into the game itself, but I continued to run him anyway for the ring experience, and he continued to do his weaves and teeter, qualifying in 5 out of 8 runs - good boy!

AGILITY BRISBEE RUNS AGAIN
Fleet Feet CPE Trial
Turner, OR - November 5-6, 2005
Brisbee has been taking a break for agility for a while, but he was back in action this weekend. With Bruce traveling, Brisbee had to settle for being run by Heather, which is definitely not his preference. Still, it was a perky, bouncy Brisbee that showed up at the trial, and while he was a little distracted, he didn't seem overly stressed at all. He even did some bonus weavepoles and a TEETER! A good showing for the Brisbee, and hopefully Bruce and Brisbee will make a level 2 debut next year!
